Trauma symptoms – most people working in mental health and health are familiar with the list:
anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, nightmares, sleep disturbances, changes in memory and concentration, and startle responses. The list goes on.
But many are less aware that the causes of these myriad symptoms are actual changes, not just in brain function, but also in brain structure.
A trauma-impacted brain changes in both function and structure.
It changes in very predictable ways – parts of the brain are up-regulated and parts are down-regulated.
It’s fascinating.
